Belmont Mountains & Mine Lollipop,

Tonopah, AZ

Saturday, June 12

Rugged mountains and abandoned mines make for a 4x4 adventure. Join us as we explore the Belmont Mountains west of Phoenix, with a trip to the old Tonopah-Belmont Mine for lunch and rock collecting. Route on dirt is just under 22 miles. We will meet up at the TA Truck Stop on the S side of I-10 at 339th Ave Exit on Saturday, June 12 at 8:00 am, with a rollout planned for 8:30 am.

Bring lots of water, sunscreen, beverages, lunch, a chair, shade if you have it, a rock hammer (and safety glasses), and gloves (rocks get hot this time of year).

Plan on completing the loop around 2 pm, depending on how long folks want to linger at the mine. There are open shafts and a large adit at the mine--STAY OUT OF BOTH. There is a large shaft in the floor of the adit a short way in, very difficult to see in the dark. Stay out, stay alive.
